China Wine Competition Announces Awards 2019

Australian wines grab most Gold medals, classic wines compete vigorously, and many lesser-known wine regions win awards.

The first edition of the China Wine Competition, which judges quality, value, and packaging, saw entries from 28 countries across the globe. Wines were entered from wine regions including, Australia, France, Italy, United States, China, Spain, and others such as Uruguay, Bolivia, and Azerbaijan, and Slovakia.

Australian wines trounced the rest of the world, with 14 Gold medals, and scooping up 38% of the medals.

Although Australia paced ahead of all other countries, there is still a well-maintained balance provided across the results with wines. Along with France, Italy, Spain, South Africa, the United States grabbing medals, wines from lesser-known wine regions such as Uruguay, Bolivia, and Azerbaijan also grabbed medals at the 2019 China Wine Competition.

Ropiteau Frères’ 2017 Chardonnay - Meursault Clos du Cromin from France, seized a Double Gold medal, and was crowned as “Wine of the Year”.

The still white wine not only scored a whopping 97 points but was also awarded “Best Wine by Quality”, "Best in Show by Varietal" and “Best in Show by Country” by judges at the 2019 China Wine Competition.

Meursault is a small region in France known for producing the majority of white wine Chardonnay grapes. A French commune, which is situated on a prehistoric settlement, and just like the entirety of France, Meursault also produces some of the classiest wines of the world.

The Winery of The Year was taken by Italy’s Cantina Tollo, the maker of Abruzzo Pecorino which won “Best Wine by Package” and “Best in Show by Country”.

New Zealand’s Kamana Pinot Noir scooped up a medal for “Best Wine by Value” while also winning “Best Wine in Show by Varietal

14 judges coming from leading brands from the wine industry of China judged the competition which helped international wines understand the Chinese wine market, and industry palate.
